The Lagos State Government has directed all unapproved and unregistered private schools operating within the state to register immediately with the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).
This directive aims to ensure that all educational institutions below the tertiary level meet the required standards for quality education.
Jamiu Alli-Balogun, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, issued the directive as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the education system in Lagos.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the Coordinating Director of OEQA, Remi Abdul, explained that the registration of private schools is mandatory, and failure to comply could result in sanctions.
Abdul emphasized the importance of proper registration and documentation in response to the rapid growth of private schools in the state.
He noted that this measure would ensure effective monitoring and timely intervention where necessary.
Starting from Monday, January 13, 2025, unregistered private schools can submit their applications for registration at the OEQA office in Alausa, Ikeja.
Abdul further highlighted the benefits of registration, including state recognition, access to technical and financial support, and the opportunity to stay informed about new policies and initiatives from both state and federal ministries.
“The Lagos State Government remains committed to ensuring that all learners receive quality education, and the registration of private schools is a crucial step towards achieving this goal,” Abdul assured.
The government’s move underscores the importance of maintaining high educational standards and ensuring that private institutions align with the state’s educational objectives.
