The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has denied allegations that it demolished a building at 1A Olubunmi Owa Street, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa.
In a statement on Friday, LASBCA General Manager Gbolahan Oki, through Assistant Director of Public Affairs Adu Adegoke, clarified that the removal of an attachment to the building was carried out by the property owner without proper permits or adherence to procedures.
“The attention of the Lagos State Building Control Agency has been drawn to a misleading video circulating online regarding the removal of an illegal attachment to a building by the owner at 1A Olubunmi Owa Street, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa, Lagos,” Oki stated.
He explained that LASBCA had served multiple notices to the property owner, including convention, seal-off, and quit notices, instructing the removal of the illegal attachment in line with the Lagos State Government’s urban regeneration and sustainable development goals.
During a routine enforcement exercise, officials discovered what Oki described as “an illegal demolition” and encountered resistance from occupants who had not complied with building laws.
The circulating video, Oki added, misrepresented the situation, showing an individual obstructing LASBCA officials.
He noted that the person in the video admitted to receiving notices, contradicting their claims.
Oki reiterated LASBCA’s commitment to enforcing building regulations and ensuring a safe and sustainable Lagos.
“We remain focused on urban regeneration and will not be deterred by attempts to distort facts,” he said.
