Lawmaker laments herdsmen invasion, destruction of crops in Ogun

The House of Representatives member representing Yewa north/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, Gboyega Isiaka has expressed his deep concern over the reported herdsmen’s invasion of the Araromi Ibese community when crops and other livelihoods of the women farmers were destroyed.

In a statement on Sunday by the federal lawmaker’s Media Aide Femi Peters, GNI as he is fondly called, said that he was particularly distressed to learn of the devastating impact of this invasion on these women, who have seen their crops destroyed and their dignity trampled upon.

The statement said that “One of the victims of the invasion, a heavily pregnant woman due for delivery was forced to flee for safety, delivering her baby in the bush in the middle of the night, out of fear of the herdsmen.

“With no access to medical care,  she returned to the village still gripped by fear. Mother and child could have died in the process”.

While commending the proactive steps taken by security agencies and community leaders, Isiaka urged them to do more to address the ugly situation.

As a representative of the people, he vowed to monitor the situation and ensure immediate relief and succor are provided to the affected farmers and their families.

The lawmaker said “My attention has been drawn to the grievances of our women in Araromi Ibese over the destruction of their farmlands by Fulani Herdsmen.

“I am appalled by the unchecked onslaught by these herdsmen who are systematically destroying the lifeline of our communities – our farmlands.”

“The safety and well-being of our constituents are of the utmost importance. We will not rest until the Araromi Ibese farming community is safeguarded from further invasion.

“We will continue to advocate for immediate and effective government intervention to address this situation.”
