SUPER EAGLES forward Ademola Lookman netted his 10th Serie A goal of the season last night but his Atalanta side still lost 3-2 to visiting Napoli.
Lookmanโs goals this season have propelled Atalanta to being involved in the title race, but they have slipped up in recent weeks.
The current African Player of the Year is just one goal from equaling his league tally for the whole of last season, although Atalanta have now gone five consecutive matches without a win.
On the other hand, Napoliโs winning run has stretched to six games.
Atalanta drew first blood in front of their home fans, Mateo Retegui giving them the lead in the 16th minute.
Napoli, looking to regain the Italian title they last won in 2023, pulled level through Matteo Politano in the 27th minute before former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay put them 2-1 ahead late in the first half.
Lookman equalised for Atalanta 10 minutes into the second half after driving towards the Napoli defence before hitting a low left-foot shot into the bottom corner amid a crowd of Napoli players.
However, Romelu Lukaku struck what turned out to be the Napoli winner 12 minutes from time.
The defeat leaves Atalanta in third place in the table, seven points behind leaders Napoli.
In the other Serie A fixture also last night, Juventus defeated AC Milan 2-0.
Milan were without Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze, who is still out with a thigh injury.
