The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Daniel Onyejekwe, in connection with the murder of one Christian Goodluck in Sapele on New Year’s Day.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter).
According to reports, the incident started when Onyejekwe engaged with Goodluck in a heated quarrel for allegedly assaulting his mother.
Subsequently, the altercation escalated into a violent fight between the two men.
Both Onyejekwe and Goodluck reportedly armed themselves with broken bottles during the fight, and Onyejekwe allegedly stabbed Goodluck.
Edafe said, “In this year 2025, please control your temper. The suspect, Daniel Onyejekwe, aged 30, in Sapele, murdered one Christian Goodluck on 1/1/2025. The suspect claimed that he met the deceased quarrelling with and assaulting his mother.
“They fought using a broken bottle. He stabbed the deceased with the broken bottle, which later led to his death. What a way to start the new year.”
The police urged residents to exercise caution and avoid violence during disputes.
Edafe said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
