MTN Foundation distributes school bags, others to Katsina female students
MTN Foundation, on Thursday distributed learning materials to 500 students at Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Katsina, Katsina State.
Speaking at the event, Senior Manager of Channels Development at MTN, Hamza Ibrahim, emphasised the company’s dedication to supporting education in Katsina and across Nigeria.
“Education is the cornerstone of any meaningful development.
“At MTN, we believe in giving back to society, and initiatives like this are meant to help students succeed in their academic pursuits.
“We will continue to support education. You are the leaders of tomorrow, and I see a great future in you. I urge you to make judicious use of these learning materials,” Ibrahim said.
Representing the First Lady of Katsina State, Zulhat Radda, the state Commissioner for Education, Zainab Musawa, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing education, particularly for the girl child.
“The First Lady, Hajiya Zulhat Umar Radda, directed me to be here because girl child education is something that is very dear to her heart. I see great leaders among you, and I want to tell you that your future is in your hands.
“The future of this country lies in girl child education because girls grow to become respected mothers, wives, teachers, and leaders. Without girl child education, there are gaps that cannot be filled.
“I encourage each and every one of you to take your education seriously. I am a product of girl child education. If I had not gone to school, I wouldn’t be your commissioner or be standing before you today.
“You are prospective commissioners, and I urge you to explore all educational opportunities. Education has no limits, even if you face challenges like early marriage. You can always continue learning because education has no boundaries.
“I also want to express my appreciation to MTN for its generosity and commitment to girl child education. The government, along with partners like MTN, is working hard to improve education in the state,” she stated.
In her address, the school principal, Amina Ibrahim, thanked MTN for selecting the school for the initiative and assured all that the materials would be put to good use.
“As the saying goes, ‘if you educate a girl child, you educate a nation.’ That is exactly what you have done today, and we are grateful to the MTN Foundation,” she remarked.
The distributed materials included customised school bags, umbrellas, and 10 exercise books for each student.
Additionally, some students received special biros as a reward for participating in a mini-debate during the programme.
