‘My Life Took a Turn for the Better After Mohbad’s Death’ — Late Singer’s Father

Joseph Aloba, the father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, fondly called Mohbad, has opened up about how his life took an unexpected turn for the better following his son’s tragic passing.

In a revealing conversation with media personality Akin Abolade, popularly known as Mrlilgaga, on the 15th of January, 2025, Aloba shared: “Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he is my friend.

He had it in plan to do many things for me but they didn’t allow him to do them. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad, and that of God combined together that began to send people to assist me.

“Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me, and it is beyond ordinary. So it is the spirit of Mohbad and God that led those people to give me all I have now. Those were the things he was meant to be doing for me, but they didn’t allow him to do them,” he stated.

Addressing speculation surrounding those accused of hindering his son’s efforts, Aloba pointedly referenced his son’s wife, Wunmi, and her family, remarking, “They did a lot concerning that boy (Mohbad). All his landed property is in their possession.

Even the land he bought for me to build a church, I forced him to buy and mold the blocks on it, which was later used to bury him.”

Aloba further revealed that just two weeks before Mohbad’s untimely death, his son had taken him to see a house he intended to purchase after completing his music tour.

According to Aloba, the house was already paid for in full.

In a heartfelt recollection, he narrated how Mohbad’s birth had a profound impact on his life.

The funds from the naming ceremony, which were stolen, propelled him into singing. Remarkably, Mohbad became a backup singer for him at just one year old.

Aloba, a carpenter, singer, and pastor without a formal church, disclosed that his son had promised to build him a church before his passing.

The bereaved father also showcased the fruits of the goodwill he’s received since Mohbad’s death a block-making industry, a truck, and a Toyota Highlander gifts from compassionate Nigerians.

He proudly mentioned that he has released nine songs since losing his son, demonstrating his resilience in the face of grief.

Recall that Mohbad tragically passed away in Lagos on the 11th of September, 2023, at the age of 26.

Days later, on the 19th of September, a nurse accused of administering a Tetanus vaccine to him was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

The nurse was found to be unlicensed, adding to the controversy surrounding the singer’s death.
