The Adamawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) confiscated 4,880 kilograms of illicit drugs and arrested 536 suspected offenders in 2024.
State Commander Agboalu Samson revealed this during a press briefing in Yola on Monday, noting that 518 of the suspects were males, while 18 were females.
The seized drugs included 3,180.364 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and 1,700.290 kilograms of psychotropic substances. A detailed breakdown showed:
- 1,090.632 kilograms of Tramadol (1,758,868 capsules, tablets, and milliliters),
- 6.866 kilograms of Diazepam (33,259 tablets),
- 577.606 kilograms of Exol-5 (1,636,989 tablets), and
- 19.932 kilograms of codeine-based cough syrups (44,592 milliliters).
Additional seizures included 0.038 kilograms of Methamphetamine, 0.015 kilograms of Cocaine, 5 kilograms of Formalin (locally called “Suck and Die”), and 1.4 kilograms of Akuskura herbal mixture.
Commander Samson expressed concern over the wide range of drugs being trafficked, describing it as evidence of the growing complexity of drug abuse and trafficking in Adamawa State.
On legal efforts, he reported 148 convictions during the year, with sentences ranging from three months to 25 years. Among the convicted, 143 were males and five females, aged between 18 and 65 years. He also noted that 59 cases remain pending at the Federal High Court in Yola.
In addition to enforcement, the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit provided counseling and rehabilitation services to 52 individuals, with 40 successfully completing the program in 2024.
