The Department of Anti-Prostitution, Adultery, and Fornication of the Niger State Liquor and Licensing Board has vowed to ramp up its campaign against immoral activities across the state.
At the same time, it has announced plans to intensify its crackdown on illegal liquor operations.
This was revealed by Yahaya Halidu, the Director General of the Niger State Liquor and Licensing Board, during a crucial meeting with liquor distributors and vendors from Chanchaga, Bosso, and Paikoro Local Government Areas.
Halidu outlined the department’s strategy, highlighting its focus on notorious hotspots such as City Gate Kpakungu and Bosso.
“The Department of Anti-Prostitution, Adultery, and Fornication of the Board will also monitor and checkmate immoral activities in areas like City Gate Kpakungu and Bosso,” he reiterated.
Addressing illegal liquor operations, the DG stated that since assuming office in November, the Board has devised robust measures to enforce its mandate.
These include regulating liquor distribution and consumption, ensuring public safety, and supporting infrastructure development in alignment with Governor Umar Muhammed Bago’s New Niger Agenda.
He stressed the importance of compliance, warning operators to adhere to legal frameworks and established guidelines.
“The Board has already taken action against illegal operators, directing one woman to close her business within seven days for operating in a residential area. We are warning operators against selling to underage individuals, operating in residential areas, and allowing the sale or consumption of illicit drugs,” he said.
To enforce these directives, Halidu disclosed that the Board has set up a task force to clamp down on defaulters. He also appealed to the public for support in reporting illegal operators while cautioning Board staff against actions that could undermine its efforts.
With this intensified campaign, the Niger State Liquor and Licensing Board is leaving no stone unturned in its bid to uphold moral and legal standards in the state.
