The Federal Government is enhancing collaborations with global lessors and financiers to promote domestic airline growth and fleet renewal, according to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, Keyamo said the government aims to foster a globally competitive, inclusive, and resilient aviation ecosystem.
Keyamo revealed plans to lead a Nigerian aviation delegation to the “Boeing Lessor Forum” in Dublin, Ireland, from January 12 to 15.
The forum coincides with the “Airline Economics Growth Frontiers Global Conference” at the same venue.
“This pivotal event highlights Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to fostering growth and sustainability in the aviation sector under the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu,” Keyamo stated.
He described the forum as a vital opportunity to showcase aviation reforms and establish strategic alliances for the sector’s advancement.
“I expect active participation and collaboration by the delegation to unlock innovative leasing and financing solutions tailored to our shared goals,” he added.
Keyamo urged the delegation to utilise the event to address inquiries and logistical needs, ensuring productive engagement.
He also emphasised the government’s commitment to international protocols, including the “Cape Town Convention,” which he said is crucial to boosting investor confidence.
Keyamo further outlined plans to modernise airports, improve air navigation systems, and prioritise training programmes to develop local talent for sustained industry growth.
The Cape Town Convention provides internationally recognised rights for creditors during debtor defaults or insolvencies, reducing risks for aircraft financiers and stakeholders.
It also establishes an international registry for mobile equipment interests, enhancing security for global aviation investments.
