‘Nothing New’: Putin Dismisses Trump’s Threat Over Ukraine

Russia has dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of potential tariffs and sanctions if Moscow fails to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Trump had vowed in a statement to impose “high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions” on Russian exports should President Vladimir Putin refuse to seek a resolution to the war.

In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov played down the threat, noting, “There’s nothing particularly new here. These were tactics he seemed to favor during his first presidency.”

Peskov added that Russia remains open to dialogue with the United States, provided it is founded on mutual respect and equality.
