Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, narrowly escaped an attack by protesting students in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

The incident occurred while Salako-Oyedele was en route to the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, to represent Governor Dapo Abiodun at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

Her convoy was attacked by students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), who were armed with sticks and other dangerous projectiles.

According to a statement made available to newsmen, attempts to allow the convoy to pass were unsuccessful.

Once the students realised it was the Deputy Governor, they became more agitated and rushed to demobilise her convoy.

Despite efforts by her security team and police officers on the scene to calm the protesters, the situation escalated.

โ€œAs a result, the convoy had to make a detour to her lodge, allowing the students to pass peacefully before she proceeded to the event,โ€ the statement read.

The protest caused a significant obstruction of traffic, damaging some of the Deputy Governorโ€™s security vehicles, and injuring several of her security personnel while trying to maintain order.
