Tragedy struck on Otedola Bridge in Lagos as a yet-to-be-identified man lost his life, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a multiple truck accident.
The incident, which involved four articulated trucks laden with containers, occurred during an overnight operation by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the fatality and disclosed that the injured victims were promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident happened as LASEMA personnel were recovering a fallen 40-foot container on the bridge.
The secondary incident, caused by reckless driving, resulted in the collision of the trucks, leaving them stuck together due to the impact.
โOne adult male extricated from beneath one of the trucks was pronounced dead at the scene,โ Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Three others, all adult males, sustained injuries.
Two of them were taken to the Accident and Emergency Centre after receiving on-the-spot medical attention.
The LASEMA chief assured that safety protocols were swiftly activated to prevent further incidents.
He added that the deceasedโs body was handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps for further action.
Following the recovery operation, the affected vehicles were cleared to a layby, and the road was reopened for normal vehicular movement.
Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
