Opposition Calls for Impeached Lagos Speaker Obasa’s Probe

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State have urged anti-corruption agencies to investigate the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, over allegations of corruption.

This demand came on Tuesday, a day after Obasa was removed from office by 90% of his colleagues.

The Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, called for a formal petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“As it is now, it should not be a word of mouth. He who alleges must prove.

“They should be fair and honest with themselves and Lagosians by sending a petition officially to the EFCC and put the allegations there so that the EFCC can then do a thorough job,” Amode stated.

The Lagos LP Secretary, Sam Okpala, echoed the call for accountability.

“If there are allegations against the impeached Speaker, he should be made to face the law as long as it is not a witch-hunt,” he said.

Prominent PDP chieftain Chief Bode George also supported Obasa’s impeachment, citing his alleged disrespect for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the 2024 budget presentation.

“The way he treated the Executive Governor of Lagos State during the annual budget presentation was despicable and dishonourable,” George said during a Channels TV interview on Tuesday night.
