The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the murder of a vigilante member, Precious Nnamdi, who was killed by suspected cultists in Ahoada town, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Confirming the incident, that happened on Tuesday night, SP Grace Iringe Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer, said: “Yes, I can confirm the incident. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was certified dead by the doctor on duty.
“He has been deposited in the mortuary. An investigation is ongoing.”
NewsNGR gathered that the suspected cultists, armed with guns, intercepted Nnamdi while he was on patrol along Hospital Road on Tuesday night, January 14, 2025.
Sources said although the bullets fired at him did not penetrate, the assailants used sticks and iron objects found at the scene to beat him to death before fleeing.
Consequently, Iringe-Koko stated that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, had ordered the Area Commander and Tactical units to fish out and arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
She said: “The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.”
