Authorities have made significant strides in combating crime, arresting the suspected killer of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Delta State and dismantling a child-trafficking syndicate in Plateau State.
The late Hassan Jega, DPO of Agbarho Division in Delta State, was killed on October 14, 2024, during a gunfight as he and his team attempted to thwart a robbery operation.
On Monday, the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced the arrest of the prime suspect, Ogaga Dickson, identified as a member of the notorious gang responsible for the officer’s death.
“Police operatives stormed the gang’s hideout, engaging them in a fierce gun battle that neutralized four gang members,” Adejobi said.
Following Ogaga’s arrest, authorities recovered several weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, an English pistol, a locally made pistol, assorted ammunition, and six exotic vehicles.
In a separate operation in Plateau State, police uncovered and dismantled a child-trafficking ring led by Pastor Dayo Bernard.
The syndicate had abducted children aged 2-4 from homes in Jos.
The police rescued five children and apprehended additional suspects, including Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel, and Peter Ukwuani.
During interrogation, Bernard confessed to abducting and selling 13 children, all of whom were eventually rescued and reunited with their families through the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
As part of the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to curb illegal arms circulation, operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) also recovered 14 AK-47 rifles in recent operations.
These arrests and recoveries highlight the police’s commitment to addressing violent crime and protecting vulnerable populations across the country.
