Princess Miriam Onuoha’s FMC Okigwe Bill Gets Presidential Assent

The amazon has won again for the people of Imo State, especially for her constituents at Okigwe North.

Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha, the Member representing Okigwe-North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives must be in celebratory mood after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Okigwe.

The Bill for the proposed FMC Okigwe was one of the bills sponsored by Princess Onuoha which has now received the President’s assent.

The Bill was first passed by the House of Reps on December 21, 2023. It got the Senate approval ten months later on 10th October 2024.

In a message after the president’s assent, Princess Onuoha expressed her gratitude to President Tinubu and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State for “keeping to their promises made to the people of Okigwe North.”

The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman House Committee on TETfund , was reportedly moved by the cries of the women and children in her constituency who are in dire need of a high-quality medical centre.

While proposing the Bill, she argued that the proposed medical centre would improve access to healthcare delivery in Imo State and Okigwe in particular.

She has sponsored several health-related bills since her time in the 9th House of Reps. They include: A Bill for an Act to establish Federal College of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences at Isiala Mbano, LGA of Imo State and the Cannabis Control Bill 2020.

The lawmaker has been working tirelessly to bring specialized medical infrastructures to Imo State, in obvious desire to ensure quality manpower in the health system and bring healthcare closer to her people.
