TROOPS from the 5 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have neutralized members of a criminal gang linked to the deaths of four soldiers and the kidnapping of two Korean expatriates in Kalaogbokolo, located in the Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State. This incident occurred on December 12, 2023, targeting employees of Daewoo Company.
The operation was detailed in a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops conducted a coordinated cordon-and-search operation that led to the discovery of a stockpile of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, a Fabrique Nationale rifle, a pump-action gun, two locally-made rifles, three AK-47 magazines, one FN magazine, three rounds of 7.62mm (Special), and 13 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO).
The statement noted that two gang members were apprehended during the operation. However, while being transported for further investigation, the suspects attempted to flee into the bush, prompting a lengthy pursuit that resulted in their neutralization.
The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to ensuring that those involved in such violent acts will face serious consequences, regardless of the time needed to track them down. The Division also reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and property in the area and encouraged the public to continue providing vital intelligence to support security efforts.
“This successful operation highlights the military’s determination to bring violent offenders to justice and restore peace to affected communities,” the statement concluded.
