AS the world observes Armed Forces Remembrance Day today, January 15, the Nigerian Senate has issued a heartfelt tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in service.
In a statement signed by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, he emphasized the selflessness of the military’s sacrifices for the country.
He stated, “On behalf of the Senate Committee on Nigerian Army, I wish to honor our fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation.”
He continued, “I would also like to commend our current officers and soldiers who are upholding peace and ensuring the security of our nation against internal and external threats. January 15 is a day dedicated to remembering and celebrating the bravery, patriotism, and selflessness of our military personnel who have given their lives in the line of duty.
“As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, I am profoundly humbled by the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces. Their courage and steadfast commitment to our nation’s unity and security have not gone unnoticed. They have continually risked their lives to uphold our nation’s territorial integrity and ensure the safety and peace of our citizens.
“The sacrifices made by the fallen officers and soldiers over the past year will not be forgotten.
“We remember their families, who are left to endure the pain of their loss. It is our hope that the nation will continue to support them, providing comfort and assistance during this difficult time.
“As we honor our fallen heroes today, we are reminded of the significance of unity, patriotism, and selflessness. We must strive together to create a nation where our military personnel can operate in a safe and supportive environment.
“Once again, I pay tribute to our fallen heroes and their families. May their sacrifices not be in vain. Let us continue to work towards a nation where peace, unity, and prosperity prevail.”
