A combined security patrol team, consisting of Nigeria Police and members of the Sokoto State Community Guard, successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt involving gunmen believed to be armed bandits.
The event took place at Kwanar Mahalba along the Goronyo-Sabon highway in Sokoto State’s eastern senatorial district.
Seven passengers, including children, were rescued by the security personnel, while other passengers fled into the bush before help arrived.
Tragically, one passenger was shot and killed by the bandits.
The rescued individuals were presented to the state’s deputy governor, Muhammad Idris Gobir, who commended the security forces for their efforts.
He noted that over the past four days, the joint patrol team has rescued a total of 63 victims from bandit attacks.
The deputy governor detailed that 24 victims were rescued last Sunday, 39 on Monday, and 7 on Wednesday.
He emphasized that the state government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, is intensifying efforts to combat the activities of the Lakurawa terrorists.
According to him, security measures are being strengthened in areas known to harbor Lakurawa members.
