Super Eagles FC! Netizens tease Sevilla after third Nigerian signing
Football fans have flooded social media with reactions after Spanish LaLiga side Sevilla announced the signing of Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Montpellier, making him the third Super Eagles player at the club this season, NewsNGR Sports Extra reports.
The 24-year-old striker, who penned a five-year deal with Los Nervionenses until 2029, joins compatriots Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, though reports suggest Iheanacho may depart before the transfer window closes.
Following Sevilla’s announcement on social media with the caption “From Benue State to Sevilla.”
Nigerian fans quickly reacted, with user @endyy090 dubbing the club “Super Eagles FC.”
“Is Sevilla owned by a Nigerian now?” David Peters wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Paultwin Okoye offered his support, writing, “I wish this young man nothing but the best of luck in his soccer career.”
Eze Chidi sent welcomes to the striker writing, “Welcome to Sevilla FC Akor.” User @PlutoVibez_ added, “Sevilla, you guys are doing well.”
However, some fans used the opportunity to remind the Spanish club about their promise to give amateur Nigerian footballer Osineye Ayotunde, popularly known as ‘Ola Great’, a trial after his social media post surpassed their 100,000 retweets target last week.
“Admin you wan Dey use us catch cruise,” Dave Chigozie posted, while Abass simply asked, “Oladegreat nko?”
The comments took a more serious turn when @fabthaFabulous threatened, “February first, we mass report your page across all platforms. You’re using us to farm impression.”
Adams joins Sevilla after scoring three goals and providing three assists in 15 matches for Montpellier this season. The striker previously had successful spells in Norway with Sogndal IL and Lillestrøm SK, where he notably scored 17 goals in 17 games during the summer of 2023.
The former Nigeria U-20 international becomes the latest addition to Sevilla’s Nigerian contingent, with the club also recently announcing the creation of a new international squad competing in Spain’s ninth-tier Tecera Andaluza.
