Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the former senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, has embarked on a bold new chapter in his spiritual journey with the launch of a ministry in Lagos called The Family Fellowship.
A video that surfaced on Monday morning captured the jubilant atmosphere of the fellowship’s inaugural service, held on the 19th of January, 2025, at the prestigious Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event was a spectacle of joyous dancing and heartfelt celebration as members gathered for the first time under the new ministry’s banner.
Taking to Instagram, Iluyomade extended a warm invitation to the public, encouraging them to be part of the fellowship.
In his post, he wrote: “The Family Fellowship invites you specially. Join us tomorrow at the Civic Centre for a special time in the Lord’s presence. Promises to be a great experience.”
Iluyomade’s new venture follows his suspension from RCCG in 2024, a consequence of controversy surrounding an elaborate 60th birthday celebration hosted by his wife, Pastor Siju Iluyomade.
The celebration occurred shortly after the tragic death of Herbert Wigwe, a prominent church member and former Access Bank CEO, who died in a helicopter crash in the United States along with his wife and son.
Critics deemed the timing of the celebration insensitive, as it took place just weeks after Wigwe’s passing.
The late financier had been a significant benefactor of the church, and the incident drew widespread attention.
In response to the backlash, the RCCG Governing Council launched an investigation, resulting in the suspension of Iluyomade and his wife for three months.
They were also reassigned to worship at the church’s headquarters in Ebute Metta and were notably absent from the Wigwe family’s funeral.
Despite the turbulence, the Iluyomades have pressed forward with their spiritual mission.
With The Family Fellowship, they aim to chart a new path, welcoming worshippers to experience a fresh vision of faith and fellowship.
