A 34-year-old tenant, Royal Titus, was arraigned on Wednesday before the Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court on charges of malicious damage, conspiracy, and threatening violence against his landlord.
The defendant, who resides in the Apete area of Ibadan, faces four charges: conspiracy, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, malicious damage, and threatening violence. However, Titus pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the offences were committed at Apete between May and November 25, 2024.
According to Oladoyin, the trouble began when Titus repeatedly left his generator running throughout the night, which violated community rules.
She said the landlord, Mr. Fatai Omorilewa, confronted Titus about the noise and disturbance caused by the generator.
“Rather than take the correction in good faith, the defendant and others at large maliciously damaged the landlord’s Elepac generator and threatened him with violence,” Oladoyin said.
She added that Titus’ actions were likely to disrupt the peace in the neighbourhood. The prosecutor explained that the offences contravened Sections 516, 249(d), 451, and 86 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Adebola Adeola granted Titus bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to February 11, 2025, for hearing.
