UBEC, NMEC to Collaborate on Reducing Illiteracy in Nigeria
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has pledged to collaborate with the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult, and Non-Formal Education (NMEC).
This announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of NMEC, Professor Akpama Ibor.
According to Mrs. Garba, the two agencies discussed numerous opportunities for partnership and potential areas of collaboration, including joint programs, resource sharing, and capacity-building initiatives.
She emphasized the importance of leveraging each organization’s strengths to create a more comprehensive and effective approach to promoting basic education in Nigeria.
Similarly, discussions focused on innovative strategies to reduce illiteracy rates, such as community-based learning centers, mobile education units, and digital literacy programs.
Professor Ibor highlighted the significance of non-formal education in providing flexible learning opportunities for adults and out-of-school youths. He also shared ideas for continuous education programs that support lifelong learning and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC expressed optimism about the commitment of both NMEC and UBEC to this partnership.
The visit was regarded as a significant step toward strengthening collaboration and enhancing efforts to eradicate illiteracy while promoting lifelong learning for sustainable development.
