Nigerian journalist Kikelomo Atanda-Owo has emphasized the importance of women achieving self-reliance in their relationships, in light of the divorce proceedings involving Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, commonly known as 2Baba, and his spouse, Annie Idibia.

According to Naija News, during her program ‘Real Talk With Kike’, the prominent broadcaster discussed the intricate nature of love, sacrifice, and self-worth within relationships, encouraging women to place self-love above societal pressures.

Kike, who is married to fellow journalist Reuben Abati, criticized Annie’s choice to remain in the relationship with 2Baba despite evident warning signs.

Atanda-Owo expressed sympathy for Annie’s steadfast dedication to love but underscored the necessity for women to prioritize their emotional and mental health.

She said, “The foundation of both of them determines the future. She stood by Tuface during his rising music career, she stayed even after he impregnated other women and had children with them. She stayed even when he continued seeing his baby mama. Love is not a crime, but women should start placing themselves above men in relationships.

“What Annie tolerated, accommodated, endured, most men can never handle a fraction of it if the table were turned. Imagine if another man even touches your wife by the waist – some marriages would collapse immediately.”

Kike praised 2Baba for his composure in navigating the marital crisis, emphasizing his decision to refrain from disclosing personal matters on social media.

She remarked, “We don’t know the full picture, what’s going through his mind. But one thing I commend him for is keeping his cool, not rushing to social media to spill details of their daily lives. This shows a level of maturity, even though he is the genesis of these challenges.”

Atanda-Owo emphasized the important lessons to be learned from the situation involving 2Baba and Annie, stating, , “We must save the next girl, teach the next generation that self-love and self-development come first. You do not need marriage to validate your existence as a woman or a man.“
