The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced a two-week ban on the activities of Pantekas (sellers of used items) in the FCT.
The decision was reached during the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Security Council’s first meeting of 2025, presided over by Wike on Monday. The ban takes effect from Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Additionally, Wike prohibited scavenging within Abuja’s city center and surrounding areas, restricting scavengers to dump sites.
The minister also revealed that individuals arrested for vandalizing public infrastructure in the FCT would face prosecution for economic sabotage and attempted murder.
“All Panteka activities are banned for two weeks effective tomorrow. Scavenging within the Abuja city center and its environs is also banned, and scavengers are restricted to dump sites. Offenders vandalizing public infrastructure will be prosecuted for economic sabotage and attempted murder,” Wike said, as per a statement shared by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, on social media.
