Anambra 2025: APC aspirant promises to introduce community policing
A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Paul Chukwuma, on Monday, pledged to set community policing in Anambra State to tackle the lingering security challenges if he clinches the party’s governorship ticket and succeeds in defeating Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the November election.
Chukwuma made the promise at the APC national secretariat in Abuja after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms.
According to him, it is easier to identify strange faces and unusual developments in communities that have local police outfits.
He said, “It is not about what I will do differently because there is nothing on the ground. Every day people are being kidnapped with all forms of criminality going on. Secondly, we have to look at grassroots-based security policing.
“We used to have a vigilante system in Anambra State before the law that gave rise to the Anambra homeland security outfit. But you will find out the people employed are not even being paid by the government. If you see a foreigner in your community, you will know that most of these crimes are perpetuated by foreigners.
“So, we need to invest in information gathering at the low end. Anambra is a small state in terms of land mass. We will invest a lot of resources in information gathering because nothing is being done to ensure that at the low end, we can gather relevant intelligence that will tell us what is going on.”
Continuing, Chukwuma projected that his government would embarķ on mapping streets and most of the camps that are currently deserted.
The former APC national auditor also admonished the party to insist on the no-zoning arrangement in Anambra and for every aspirant to be given a level playing field.
