C’ River PDP distances self from purported Zonal Congress in Calabar

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Cross River Chapter, has distanced itself from any purported zonal congresses scheduled to be held in Calabar.

This is contained in a communique, issued after its meeting in Calabar, presided over by the Acting state party Chairman, Mr Denis Nkiri.

Nkiri said that the chapter would continue to be guided strictly by the provisions of the Constitution of the party as amended in 2017.

He noted that the South South Zonal Headquarters was in Port Harcourt, and all prior zonal congresses had always been held there.

“The State Executive Council (SEC), therefore disassociates itself and rejects outrightly any purported zonal congresses scheduled to be held in Calabar, Cross River,” he said.

According to him, the constitution of our great party as amended in 2017, See section 50 sub section 2c, d and e, states that all zonal congresses shall be conducted at the Zonal Headquarters

“This constitution spells out the operational guidelines, the rule of law and the vision of our founding fathers for the stability and growth of the party, as well as entrenchment of democracy and wellbeing of Nigerians.”

The party’s acting state chairman, also said that the state chapter of the party, had unanimously resolved to queue behind the South South Governor’s Forum on any decision regarding the upcoming 2025 zonal congress.

“In this upcoming 2025 zonal congress, the SEC aligns with the views and decisions of the South South Governors Forum.

“We also pledge to work with the Forum to reposition the party ahead of 2027 elections,” he added.
