COAS gives troops one month to crush Turji, other bandits

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has given the troops one month to crush bandit leaders such as Bello Turji, among other kingpins.

Addressing the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma in Gusau on Thursday, the Army Chief said, the mandate must be carried out within one month in order to restore peace for the development of the Northwest zone in particular and Nigeria in general.

The visit of the Chief Army of Staff to Zamfara State to address the troops in the ongoing onslaught against terrorists was the first of its kind since he assumed duty.

Gen. Oluyede commended the troops for neutralising several bandit kingpins in the state and urged them to redouble their efforts to eliminate other high-profile criminals and other terrorists in order to restore order, stability and peace to pave way for development across the Northwest region in particular and the country in general.

He pledged to provide logistics support and improve the welfare of the frontline troops, stressing, however, that “You must deliver on the ongoing war against banditry in your area of operations.

“We will give you all the necessary support in whatever way you need to enable you to succeed in the fight against banditry.

“Just do your best and eliminate those recalcitrant bandits leaders like Bello Turji and others.”

However, the Army chief insisted that the military alone could not succeed in the ongoing war against violent armed conflict without the support of the people.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on Nigerians to collaborate with the troops by providing them with credible and timely information to flush out the bandits within the zone,” Oloyede maintained.
