Corruption our common enemy, says NACAT

A civil society organisation, Network Against Corruption and Trafficking has described the fight against corruption as the fight for a better Nigeria and called on Nigerians from all walks of life to join forces with the group to tackle corruption.

This is as it inaugurated its South-South Office in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to strengthen its anti-corruption fight in the region.

Addressing newsmen in Uyo on Saturday, as part of activities marking the inauguration of the office, the South-South Coordinator of the group, Mr. Michael Ekpo, said NACAT is determined to fight corruption, which he noted is the common enemy of the nation, and bring it to a standstill.

Ekpo highlighted the evils of corruption, emphasising that it is the reason behind the failed educational system, unemployment among the youth, and dysfunctional healthcare services in the country.

According to him, corruption is the reason why Nigerian common patrimony is in the hands of few individuals while the majority live in abject poverty

He described the fight against corruption as the fight for a better Nigeria and called on Nigerians from all walks of life to join forces with the group to tackle corruption.

“As Nigerians, we have one common enemy, corruption. It is the reason behind our failed educational system; it is the reason behind our failed health care system; it is the reason our youths roam the streets unemployed; it is the reason why our shared wealth is in the hands of a few while the rest of the populace live in abject poverty and lack, while some feed off the crumbs that fell off their table.

“This is the fight against corruption, a fight for a better Nigeria, a fight for accountability and transparency where we make our leaders understand we place them in those positions for the good of all, and so they must be accountable and responsible for all, not responsible for themselves, not responsible for their families, and not responsible to any cabal,” Ekpo said.
