Cybersecurity expert urges stronger digital defences for Nigeria

A cybersecurity expert, Ademola Lawal, has called for the strengthening of the country’s digital defences against cyber attacks.
In a statement sent to PUNCH Online on Friday, Lawal said Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Quantum Computing would help mitigate any cyber threats.
The expert stated that artificial intelligence and machine learning have already transformed cybersecurity by detecting threats faster than traditional methods.
He said, “Artificial intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Quantum Computing will help strengthen digital defences and mitigate attacks before they cause damage. AI and ML have already transformed cybersecurity by detecting threats faster than traditional methods.
“These technologies analyze vast amounts of data, identifying patterns that signal potential attacks. Ademola Lawal, a leading expert in cybersecurity, emphasizes that machine learning continuously adapts, allowing security systems to recognize and respond to new threats in real-time. Automated defences powered by AI significantly reduce response times, preventing breaches before they escalate.”
Lawal stated that quantum computing is set to revolutionise encryption and threat detection with its ability to process complex calculations at unprecedented speeds.
He said, “Unlike classical computers, which rely on binary code, quantum computers use qubits that exist in multiple states simultaneously. This enables cybersecurity experts to develop advanced encryption techniques resistant to quantum-based attacks and analyze cyber threats more efficiently than ever.
Lawal asserted that integrating the powerful trio will help create next-generation security solutions capable of outpacing cybercriminals.
