Edo committed to justice, rights of women, children – Deputy gov
The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, ensuring justice for the vulnerable in the state.
Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa stated this on Thursday when he received members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Edo State Branch, led by its chairperson, Francisca Elema, at the Government House in Benin.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Idahosa said the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration remains focused on equity, fairness, and justice, particularly for women, children, and other vulnerable groups.
The deputy governor acknowledged the crucial role of women and children in driving societal progress and pledged the government’s support in safeguarding their interests.
“One of the core mandates of this government is fairness, equity, and justice. The governor has repeatedly stated that this administration is for all citizens, to with a strong commitment to protecting the rights of women and children,” he said.
He assured FIDA of the government’s partnership and support, adding, “Since your mandate aligns with ours, we will work with you to ensure that women and children’s rights are upheld.”
Idahosa commended FIDA’s dedication to empowering vulnerable Edo residents and restoring their dignity.
He also acknowledged the challenges the association faces in executing its mandate, promising to discuss them with the governor for possible intervention.
“We have taken note of the challenges you highlighted, and I will personally discuss them with my principal. Rest assured, we will revert to you soon,” he added.
In her remarks, FIDA Chairperson, Francisca Elema, reiterated the association’s commitment to partnering with the state government in promoting development and good governance across Edo.
She said FIDA remains dedicated to advocating for the rights of women and children, ensuring that justice is accessible to all, regardless of their socio-economic background.
