Edo dismisses claims of unpaid local govt salaries

The Edo State Government on Monday dismissed rumours that some local government workers in the state are being owed salaries due to the purported crisis in the councils.

In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, described the rumour as false, mischievous, and intended to mislead the public.

Itua urged the general public to disregard the claims, stating, “They are the handiwork of mischief-makers who are envious of the remarkable successes recorded by Monday Okpebholo’s administration since taking office in November 2024.”

He reaffirmed the Governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare, stressing that the state government is not owing any salaries, including that of January 2025.

“This is to debunk rumours that some local government workers in the state are being owed salaries due to the purported crisis in the councils.

“As a result of this unwavering commitment, the state government has continued to pay local government workers’ salaries since assuming office.

“This remarkable feat is even more impressive considering the setbacks in allocation payments the state has faced due to the ongoing legal crisis between the state and the embattled local government chairmen.

“Governor Okpebholo’s pragmatic approach in ensuring that no Edo worker, regardless of status, experiences undue hardship is a testament to his dedication to workers’ welfare,” he added.
