Ekiti awards N7.6bn contract for indoor sports hall
Ekiti State Government has approved the award of a contract worth N7,642,981,521.50 for the establishment of the state Indoor Sports Hall.
The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said, “The contract awarded to Messrs Aron Nigeria Limited is expected to be completed in 52 weeks.”
Olatunbosun disclosed this in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Thursday highlighting decisions arrived at during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
The commissioner stated, “Approval was given for the award of N7,642,981,521.50 contract for the establishment of the Ekiti State Indoor Sports Hall. This project aims to engage and empower Ekiti youths through various sporting activities and also a reflection of the present administration’s commitment to the advancement of the sport in the state.”
The commissioner added that EXCO also approved N2.2bn for the clearing of 1,300 hectares of land in continuation of the land-clearing exercise for mechanised farming.
Olatunbosun said that “the job is expected to be completed in three months to facilitate the planting of crops in the current year.
According to him, the location of land slated for clearing include: The Bring Back the Youth in Agriculture projects in Ose Emure, Gede, lyemero, Omuo Ekiti, Egbe Ekiti, Ayede Isan, Ogotun Ekiti and Ise Ekiti;
Others included Youth under Promise Point Partnership farms, lyemero; lyemero Farm Settlement; Gede Farm Settlement P.F.D, Gede; Eporo Farm Settlement, Eporo and Gede Farm Settlement P.F.D.
The commissioner said that EXCO also approved a N144.3m contract for procurement of Japan-customized working tools for the youths in the Bring Back Youth to Agriculture to spur food production in the State.
He said, “The customised tools include 902 packed customised raincoats, 902 packed customised rain boots, and other agricultural implements to support the participants.
The “Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture” a Private Partnership (PP) initiative, launched in collaboration with YSJ Farms Limited has the aim of empowering and engaging young people in commercial agriculture to promote food security and economic development in the State,” Olatunbosun said.
