El-Rufai: President Tinubu Didn’t Want Me in His Cabinet

Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna, has urged Nigerians not to accept the narrative that the national assembly rejected him as a ministerial nominee. 

In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, el-Rufai clarified that it was President Bola Tinubu who did not want him in his cabinet.

The former Kaduna governor revealed that the president had publicly appealed to him to suspend his plans for a ministerial appointment.

“The president publicly appealed to me to put my plans on hold, and through two months of negotiation, we finally agreed that he would nominate me as minister,” el-Rufai said.

He added, “There were certain conditions I attached to that. I think along the line, either the president changed his mind or something else happened.”

El-Rufai emphasized, “Please don’t believe the story that the national assembly rejected me. The president did not want me in his cabinet. He changed his mind.”

The statement comes amid ongoing speculation about the reasons behind el-Rufai’s exclusion from the ministerial list.
