El-Rufai to Uba Sani: Stop Embarrassing Kaduna

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed a fallout with his successor, Governor Uba Sani, linking their rift to a conditional cash transfer from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 

El-Rufai’s revelation comes after Governor Sani denied any disagreement between them while appearing on TVC on Monday. The governor insisted that their relationship remained cordial and dismissed speculations about any crisis.

Sani also took a swipe at opposition politicians aiming to unseat Tinubu in 2027, describing them as power-hungry individuals who failed to deliver while in office.

“Most of these politicians that came out and say they are coming as a coalition, they were in government just two years ago. What did they do then? They were only fighting for power, not because they could do anything better,” Sani stated.

“No president in the history of Nigeria has really practised democracy like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

However, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai dismissed Sani’s remarks, calling him a sycophant, alleging that his sudden loyalty to Tinubu was due to the N150bn Federal Government reimbursements and grants Kaduna State had received in the past 18 months.

“Every day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I used to wonder why?” El-Rufai wrote.

“However, confirming that the Federal Government ‘reimbursements, interventions, and grants’ in excess of N150bn have been given selectively to Kaduna by Tinubu now explains everything.”

He further said Kaduna people would make their judgment at the right time, urging the governor to “defend Asiwaju” if he wishes.

The political tension between the two leaders has intensified following allegations by the Kaduna State House of Assembly that El-Rufai’s administration siphoned ₦432bn, leaving the state with massive debt liabilities.
