Ex-Nasarawa speaker hails Tinubu, N’Assembly over North Central Development Commission
A former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for signing the North Central Development Commission Bill into law.
Balarabe-Abdullahi, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Yobe State, described the move as a testament to Tinubu’s commitment to national unity and regional development.
Speaking with journalists in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, on Wednesday, the ex-Speaker expressed optimism that the commission would help tackle the infrastructure deficits and socio-economic challenges confronting the North Central region.
“I want to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the NCDC bill into law. This is a clear demonstration of his leadership qualities and his zeal to ensure equitable development across the country. We in the North Central region will forever remain grateful,” he said.
Balarabe-Abdullahi noted that the commission’s establishment would create jobs, boost economic activities, and improve the standard of living for residents of the region.
He also commended the National Assembly for expediting the bill’s passage, specifically appreciating Senator Abba Moro (Benue South) and Jeremiah Umaru (Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency) for initiating and sponsoring the legislation.
The former Speaker further acknowledged the role of Nasarawa State Governor and Chairman of the North Central Governors’ Forum, Abdullahi Sule, in mobilising support for the commission’s creation.
“I want to thank Governor Abdullahi Sule for uniting his colleagues in the region to ensure this achievement became a reality. I also appreciate Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Aliyu Wadada, and other lawmakers for swiftly addressing concerns about relocating the NCDC headquarters from Lafia,” he added.
Balarabe-Abdullahi urged residents of the state to support both federal and state governments in ensuring the commission fulfils its mandate of driving sustainable development in the region.
