Flush out bandits in Katsina communities, Reps tell IG, COAS
The House of Representatives has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chief of Army Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to launch an offensive against bandits and other criminal elements terrorising communities in Katsina.
On Tuesday, the House reached this resolution after adopting the motion titled, “Need to Enhance Security Operations Against Killings and Kidnappings by Bandits in Kafur/Malumfashi Federal Constituency, Katsina State,” presented by Mr Mohammed Ibrahim.
Supporting the motion, Ibrahim condemned the rise in banditry, which he stated has led to the killings and kidnappings of innocent citizens in the constituency.
He said, “The incessant banditry in Malumfashi town, Marabar Kankara, Na Alma, and other villages in the Malumfashi Local Government Area, as well as in Yari Bori, Gidan Kaura, Kuringafa, and other villages in the Kafur Local Government Area, has caused the displacement of most communities. Many influential and wealthy individuals have migrated due to the fear of being kidnapped or killed by bandits.”
“The House is concerned that the victims are mostly young women, children between three to four years old, and security personnel. A Divisional Police Officer from Kafur Local Government Area is still hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, after being shot by bandits in one of their operations to rescue a community.”
