FRSC warns against speeding as 17 killed in Delta crash
Seventeen persons have died in a road accident that occurred at Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Tuesday that the accident, which occurred on Sunday, involved a new brand truck and a bus, and claimed the lives of six children and 11 adults.
The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Federick Ogidan, on Tuesday, described the accident as a colossal loss to the state.
The FRSC boss in the state blamed the accident on speeding and overload.
He said, “Seventeen people died including five children in the Issele-uku area. The truck was a new brand truck loaded with tyres and the bus was trying to overtake but the truck didn’t give a chance yet.
“In the process of trying to overtake, the bus ran under the truck and almost all the passengers died. Only the driver survived the accident on that bus.
“The truck is overloaded and the other vehicle which was supposed to have a 12-passenger capacity carried 18 passengers, also an overload.
“The accident is a result of careless driving and I have spoken to the police that we are going to prosecute that truck driver.”
Ogidan urged drivers to be patient while driving and desist from speeding in case of any eventuality on the road.
