JUST IN: NNPP Expels Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has officially expelled Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, and the entire Kwankwasiyya faction following its National Convention in Lagos on February 4, 2025.
The party also ratified the election of Dr. Agbo Major as its new National Chairman, alongside a newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC).
Addressing journalists at the NNPP National Headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, Dr. Major reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the Abia High Court ruling of November 1, 2024, which recognized the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), led by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, pending the resolution of all internal disputes.
Dr. Major emphasized that the party’s leadership transition followed due process, dismissing any legitimacy claims by the Kwankwasiyya faction.
“Following this judgment, party congresses were conducted at the ward, local government, state, and zonal levels, culminating in the National Convention on February 4, 2025, in Lagos,” he stated.
He clarified that the expulsion of Kwankwaso and his loyalists was final, citing the expiration of the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that initially brought them into the party.
“The Kwankwasiyya movement’s time in the NNPP has ended. The agreement that brought them in has expired, and they have refused to abide by the party’s constitution. We are moving forward without them,” Dr. Major added.
The convention also ratified the return to the party’s original logo, rejecting the new emblem proposed by Kwankwaso’s faction. Additionally, the party conducted a financial review aimed at strengthening internal structures ahead of future elections.
Dr. Major accused Kwankwaso’s supporters of spreading falsehoods and attempting to destabilize the party despite their expulsion.
“We will not be distracted by unemployed individuals masquerading as NNPP members and spreading falsehoods in the media. The courts have ruled, and they must peacefully exit our party instead of causing chaos,” he declared.
He also dismissed statements by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, a known Kwankwasiyya loyalist, reaffirming that legal rulings had already settled the matter.
Dr. Major expressed confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would soon update its records to reflect the leadership changes in line with the Abia High Court directive.
“We urge INEC to uphold the rule of law and formally recognize our leadership. NNPP is focused on preparing for 2027 and consolidating the party’s progress,” he affirmed.
He also urged the media to disregard distractions from expelled members, emphasizing that the NNPP remains united and committed to its vision for Nigeria.
