Kano Governor Appoints Umar Farouk Ibrahim as New SSG

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), a decision aimed at strengthening the administrative framework of the state.

The appointment, which takes effect from Monday, February 10, 2025, was announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.

According to the statement, Ibrahim was selected based on his extensive experience and expertise in public service. “The governor believes that with his wealth of experience, Umar Farouk Ibrahim will play a critical role in advancing the administration’s development agenda and keeping the state on track with its goals,” Dawakin Tofa stated.

Ibrahim, who has served in Kano’s civil service for over three decades, is widely recognized for his contributions to governance and policy development. Between 2001 and 2015, he served as the Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, where he was instrumental in analyzing policy options and advising the government on viable alternatives.

A senior government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described Ibrahim’s appointment as a strategic move. “This is a well-deserved appointment. His tenure as Permanent Secretary showcased his ability to coordinate government affairs effectively. He has the experience and competence to enhance the efficiency of governance in Kano,” the official remarked.

In addition to his extensive civil service record, Ibrahim has played key roles in several high-profile committees, including the Coordinating Committee on Independent Power and the State Payroll Standing Committee.

His background also includes serving as Secretary of the Inter-Community/Religious Consultative Forum, demonstrating his engagement in community development and policy reforms.

Reacting to his appointment, Ibrahim expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the confidence reposed in him. “I am deeply honored by this appointment and will do my utmost to support the administration’s vision for a more developed and prosperous Kano State,” he said.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to deliver on his mandate. “The experience he brings to the table will undoubtedly contribute to the effective implementation of government policies and programs. His leadership will be key in ensuring that our administration continues to prioritize the welfare of Kano’s citizens,” the governor stated.

Ibrahim, who holds a B.Sc. in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, is expected to bring strategic insight and a commitment to excellence to his new role, reinforcing the government’s drive toward sustainable development in Kano State.
