Kano Govt Allocates N2.5bn for Mass Weddings
The Kano State Government has earmarked N2.5 billion to fund quarterly mass weddings across the 44 local government areas of the state in 2025.
The Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, revealed this while presenting a breakdown of the 2025 budget, recently passed into law by the Kano State House of Assembly.
Shanono stated that the mass wedding initiative is part of the N91.32 billion allocated to governance and service delivery.
The program aims to assist underprivileged couples unable to afford wedding expenses by providing financial support, dowries, furniture, and other necessities.
The commissioner also highlighted other major expenditures, including N1 billion for Ramadan feeding programs, N955 million for manpower statistics, household surveys, and out-of-school children statistics, and N1.049 billion for the purchase of printing machines, rehabilitation of water systems, and library equipment for the Government Printing Press.
Other allocations include N267.6 million for infrastructure, Islamic calendar production, and Da’wah programs for new converts; N589 million for security research, empowerment initiatives, and interventions on street begging; and N200 million for the procurement of office furniture and reforms in the Accountant-General’s office.
Shanono stated that the total 2025 budget stands at N719.75 billion, a 31% increase from the initial N549.16 billion presented by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He added that the total recurrent expenditure is N262.67 billion, while capital expenditure is N457.08 billion, marking a 65% increase compared to the 2024 budget.
