Kano State Government Launches Subsidized Transport Program for Students

The Kano State Government has introduced the Abba Gida-Gida Students Transportation Relief Program to address transportation challenges for students in state-owned tertiary institutions.
The initiative was inaugurated on Wednesday at Gidan Murtala by the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo. It follows Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s declaration of a state of emergency on education in Kano State.
According to a statement issued by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, the program allows students to pay only 20% of the regular commercial transport fare on designated routes.
“This initiative is designed to provide safe, reliable, and affordable transportation for students, reducing economic burdens and ensuring seamless access to education,” the statement read.
