Kebbi postpones Argungu fishing festival to 2026

The Kebbi State Government has announced the rescheduling of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival to 2026.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman of the Festival’s Main Committee, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida Argungu, stated that the decision was reached after consultations with the Argungu Emirate Council.

Tafida Argungu stated, “After extensive discussions, the Emirate Council has decided to reschedule the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, originally planned for February 2025. As a result, the festival will now take place in 2026.”

He explained that the rescheduling was necessary to facilitate comprehensive renovation works on the festival venues, ensuring they meet modern standards and are structurally sound.

Additionally, he stressed that ongoing infrastructure projects, including the dualisation of roads and other key developments in Argungu Township, influenced the decision to shift the event.

Despite the postponement, the Deputy Governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to delivering an exceptional festival that will showcase Kebbi State’s rich cultural heritage in 2026.

“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the public, stakeholders, and participants. Let us continue working together for a brighter future for Kebbi State,” he urged the residents and other stakeholders.
