Ogun farmer found dead with bullet wounds on farm
A farmer, Alfa Mustapha, was found dead with bullet wounds on his farm located in the Ageri Village in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday.
PUNCH Metro gathered from a statement by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Sunday, that the victim had gone to the farm in the morning but did not return as when due.
The PPRO noted that a resident, concerned by Mustapha’s prolonged stay at the farm, proceeded to check on him.
The resident was said to have discovered the lifeless body of the victim on his farm and immediately reported the incident to the police.
She said, “The Ogun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the murder of one Alfa Mustapha, a 50-year-old farm worker, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farm in Ageri Village, via Olodo, Odeda Local Government Area.
“The case was reported to the Police Outstation in Olodo at about 1830 hours on February 22, 2025, by the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha, who stated that the deceased had gone to his farm in the morning but failed to return home.
“Concerned about his whereabouts, the Imam proceeded to the farm at about 1802 hours, where he found the deceased lying face up with his cutlass beside him.”
She continued that police officers in the area visited the farm and recovered the body at a hospital where it was confirmed that the victim was shot at close range and had died from bullet wounds.
The PPRO added, “Upon receiving the report, police officers from the outstation, led by the officer in charge, visited the scene and confirmed that the victim was lifeless. However, due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility at night, no immediate signs of violence were detected on the body.
“The scene was documented with photographs, and the corpse was evacuated to General Hospital, Odeda, for medical examination.
“A doctor’s assessment later revealed that the deceased had suffered bullet wounds from pellets, indicating he was shot at close range. The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for further forensic examination.”
She urged members of the public with any information that could assist the police in unravelling the incident to provide such to the police while assuring that justice would be served on the matter.
“In response to this disturbing incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s).
“He has also assured the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice.
“The Command urges anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to come forward and assist the police. Such information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” Odutola stated.
