Ogun monarch lauds alumni’s commitment to education

The Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remo Land, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, has commended the Old Students’ Association of Remo Divisional High School, Sagamu.

The monarch hailed them for their relentless contributions to the school’s growth, describing them as “silent benefactors” who give without expecting anything in return.

Speaking at his palace when a delegation from the association paid him a courtesy visit as part of the school’s 60th-anniversary celebrations, Oba Ajayi praised the alumni for their commitment to enhancing the institution’s infrastructure and academic standards.

This was detailed in a statement shared with PUNCH Online on Sunday and titled, “Ogun Monarch Hails Alumni for Educational Development.”

“There is something unique about Old Students’ Associations,” the monarch noted.

“They are the only group that contributes to the development of schools without asking for anything in return.

“While parents and teachers often expect something back, you continue to give selflessly. You don’t have to do what you are doing, but you keep giving back without looking back,” he stated.

One of the notable projects spearheaded by the alumni is the modernisation of the school’s entrance gate, a project the monarch described as a symbol of the association’s dedication.

He urged other “alumni bodies across the state to emulate their example, stressing that education remains the bedrock of societal progress.”

Speaking on behalf of the association, its president, Mr Abiodun Adesanya, reaffirmed the “group’s commitment to sustaining the legacy of their alma mater.”

He disclosed that “several projects, including infrastructure upgrades and scholarship programs for indigent students, would be unveiled as part of the anniversary celebrations.”

Also present at the event was the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Education and Chairperson of the 60th Anniversary Planning Committee, Dr. Ronke Soyombo.

She commended the alumni for their dedication to educational development, urging them to continue supporting initiatives that uplift the school and its students.

The visit, according to the release, was attended by distinguished alumni from Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries, underscoring the global impact of the school’s graduates.
