Osun health insurance agency clears N1bn debt

The Osun Health Insurance Agency has cleared a N1bn debt portfolio inherited from the previous management, the agency’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Razaq Akindele, has announced.

Speaking at the agency’s Annual Performance Review and Strategy Retreat in Ada, Osun State, on Monday, Akindele said the move was aimed at ensuring that all outstanding payments to healthcare service providers and health centres were fully settled, keeping them committed to the agency’s operations.

“We inherited over N1bn in debt, which included unpaid fees owed to healthcare service providers for their services over the years, as well as capitation owed to health centres for 13 months,” Akindele said.

“Clearing this debt was my priority, and as of now, we are no longer owing anyone.”

He noted that the agency had recorded steady growth under the new management and remained committed to meeting the demands of its enrollees.

Earlier, the Board Chairman of OSHIA, Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji, emphasised that the retreat would positively impact participants and reinforce their commitment to the administration’s vision of affordable healthcare for all.

Also speaking, Osun State Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, reaffirmed the government’s continued support for OSHIA. He added that it was now mandatory for all civil servants in the state to enroll in the insurance scheme.

“We are doing everything at the MDA level to encourage enrollment. In fact, it is compulsory for all civil servants to register for the scheme,” Aina stated.
