Remi Tinubu empowers Oyo women farmers
The wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered women farmers in Oyo State with training, financial support and farm equipment.
The empowerment was done under the auspices of the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, aimed at boosting food sustainability in the state.
The wife of the Oyo State Governor and RHI Coordinator in the state, Tamunominini Makinde, who handed over the empowerment items to Oyo women farmers, said the initiative was a testament to the President’s wife’s dedication to empowering women in agriculture and ensuring food security.
Makinde stated that the empowerment would enhance financial independence and help women unlock their full potential.
She stressed that the empowerment showed that the government embraced the pivotal role of agriculture in Nigeria’s economic diversification.
“Agriculture has long been the backbone of the nation’s economy, particularly in the southwest, providing sustenance, employment, and economic empowerment to millions.
“Here in Oyo State, we recognize the critical role women play in agricultural production, from subsistence farming to large-scale operations. Women are not just farmers; they are food providers, business owners, and key drivers of national development.
“By empowering women in agriculture, we are not only enhancing food security but also promoting economic growth,” Makinde said.
She praised Tinubu for continued efforts to uplift women across the various sectors of the nation.
Makinde urged the beneficiaries to embrace best agriculture practices thereby contributing to a sustainable agricultural system that fosters value addition and long-term food security.
In her remarks, the Oyo State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Kakulu Omonele, said the program would encourage more women to venture into farming apart from supporting those already in agriculture.
The beneficiaries praised Tinubu’s efforts as one that would enhance the welfare of women nationwide.
They also commended Makinde for facilitating the program, pledging to make the most of the empowerment opportunities provided.
