Soname donates N2.5m to Flamingos ahead of W’Cup qualifiers

Founder of Remo Stars Football Club, Kunle Soname, has pledged N2.5m to Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, as they prepare to take on South Africa in the second round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Flamingos are currently training at the Remo Stars facilities in Ikenne, Ogun State, ahead of their crucial first-leg clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.

Soname made the donation on Wednesday after watching the team play to a 1-1 draw against Beyond Limits Football Academy. Impressed by their performance, he commended the young girls for their determination and fighting spirit.

“I’m very happy with the Flamingos’ performance against Beyond Limits. They’ve achieved what my senior team couldn’t, and with this display, I believe they will do well in South Africa,” Soname stated.

As a show of support, he announced an incentive of N500,000 for their strong display in the friendly match. Additionally, he promised N1m if they secure a victory in South Africa and another N1m if they win the return leg on March 13 at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium.

Addressing the players and officials, Soname encouraged them to give their best, reminding them that Nigeria is not only the top women’s footballing nation in Africa but also one of the best in the world.

With Soname’s financial boost and words of motivation, the Flamingos will be looking to make Nigeria proud as they head into this crucial qualifier.
