12 suspects arrested for cable vandalism, stealing in Ekiti

The police in Ekiti State have arrested 12 suspects in connection with the vandalisation and stealing of electric cables in Ado Ekiti and some parts of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said the suspects were arrested in criminal hideouts within and outside Ado Ekiti.
Abutu said in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, “Due to some reported cases of vandalisation of electric cables and transformers in the state, the Ekiti State Police Command Rapid Response Squad in collaboration with the non-state actors launched a serious manhunt for the perpetrators with the view to arresting, prosecuting and crippling their criminal activities in the state.
“This effort yielded positive results as the operatives, on February 22, 2025, at about 13:30 hours, swooped on their various criminal hideouts within and outside Ado-Ekiti and arrested them.
“During an investigation, the suspects all confessed to the commission of the crime of vandalisation and stealing.
“The following items were recovered from them: rolls of armour cables, rolls of recline cables, rolls of aluminium conductors, one transformer feeder pillar, rolls of binding wire, electrical cables and generator parts. The arrested suspects shall be arraigned accordingly.”
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, warned all criminally minded individuals within the state to repent and turn a new leaf as it would no longer be business as usual.
